Must open an account with the Clean Truck Check web site and fees are due yearly.
Vehicle test can be performed 90 days prior to the expiration of vehicle tags.
Example: Tags expire in March you can start testing in January.
Motorhomes test once (1) a year
Private or Federal/State owned vehicles test twice (2) a year until 2027 when the testing will be every quarter (4 times yearly)
CA Exempt plated vehicles will have a compliance schedule based on the last digit of the VIN.
Agricultural vehicles test once (1) a year
Private or Federal owned vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) over 14,000 lbs
Vehicle must have a 2010 or later engine
Must register with TRUCRS
Two Exemptions:
Low Use Exemption
Must have registered the vehicle in TRUCRS prior to 2014.
Cannot add vehicles after 2014
Max milage per year 1000
Must report mileage yearly by January 31th
NOx Exempt
Must operate in these counties: Alpine, Colusa, Del Norte, Glenn, Humboldt, Lake, Lassen, Mendocino, Modoc, Monterey, Northern Sonoma, Plumas, San Benito, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz, Shasta, Sierra, Siskiyou, Tehama, Trinity, and Yuba.

CA seaports or intermodal railyards (Drayage vehicles)
8500 lbs GVWR vehicles and over $50 million in gross annual revenues
50 or more vehicles above 8500lbs GVWR, excluding light-duty package delivery vehicles.
Federal, State and Local Government with vehicle over 8500lbs GVWR
Report vehicles in the TRUCRS web site
Owns diesel or alternative fueled on-road vehicles over 14,000lbs
Must report vehicles in TRUCRS web site, starting January 1, 2021
Was adopted by the CARB in 2004
Requires all garbage roll-off and garbage packer trucks to have particulate matter (PM) filters installed by December 31, 2010
Reporting of these trucks is now mandatory and the information will be used to minimize the chance for unnecessary registration delays at the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV)

TRU’s must be registered in the ARBER system
Effective October 1, 2022 emission reductions from diesel-powered TRU’s and increase the use of zero emission technology
TRU owners or owner/operators are NOT required to pay TRU operating fees currently
